Defining COGS Via the User Interface
SellerLegend uses period-based COGS accounting, allowing you to define different unit costs for products across various time ranges. This ensures profit calculations reflect the cost of goods at the time the product was sold.
Navigation
Access the COGS editor by:
- Visiting Products List
- Selecting a product
- Clicking the kebab menu (three dots)
- Choosing Enter Cost Of Goods
Alternatively, click the COGS column directly in the Products List.
Timeline Understanding
The COGS Timeline View displays:
- Existing cost periods
- Gaps where costs aren't defined
- Prevents overlapping date ranges
Entry Modes
| Feature | Simple View | Detailed View |

Important Considerations
- SellerLegend recalculates affected reports immediately upon saving, with propagation taking up to 15-20 minutes for large accounts
- COGS inform Profit & Loss Reports, dashboards, and settlement analysis
- Overlapping date periods are not permitted
- For multiple products, use bulk upload via Excel for efficiency
Best Practices
- Implement future-dated costs to avoid manual updates
- Maintain continuous coverage without gaps
- Switch to Detailed View for audit trails requiring vendor tracking
